Violinist Ludvig Gudim, a member of our Musician Collective, is one of Norway’s most exciting young talents. Known for his expressive tone and exquisite musicality, he takes center stage in this morning’s concert, joined by pianist Eirik Haug Stømner. Together, they present a richly varied program filled with romance, colours, and stories.

At the heart of the program lies Brahms’ Violin Sonata in G major, a work imbued with melodic beauty, warmth, and a meditative calm. Inspired by his song Regenlied (Rain Song), the sonata shimmers with a dreamy, quiet atmosphere – music that doesn’t raise its voice, but speaks directly to the heart.

Olivier Messiaen’s Thème et variations, written as a wedding gift for his violinist wife Claire Delbos, offers an early glimpse into his unique sound world. A lyrical opening theme unfolds into six variations where his impressionistic sense of color and spiritual depth already shine through.

The concert also features Lili Boulanger’s Deux Pièces pour violon et piano – Nocturne and Cortège – works that weave together hushed intimacy and pulsating energy. Her music reflects both the sensitivity of French impressionism and the bold voice of a young woman who defied the expectations of her time.

Two miniatures add charm and character to the program: Grieg’s Trolltog (March of the Trolls) - a sparkling piano piece from his Lyric Pieces, bursts with rhythmic vitality and folkloric mischief - and Fritz Kreisler’s Liebesleid (Love’s Sorrow) transports us to the romantic salons of old Vienna, its bittersweet elegance both nostalgic and irresistibly charming.

Bring your coffee, lean back, and enjoy an hour of musical storytelling. The concert lasts about one hour without intermission – a perfect cultural pause in the middle of the day.
