A concert can contain much of what we experience across an entire life.
As Knut Hamsun unfolds a whole life in his trilogy, this evening moves between extremes. We begin with Richard Strauss’s Metamorphosen, written in the shadow of war.
From there, we step into the Viennese salon—to the music that arises when people come together. It may sound like two opposites. Yet it is the same life we encounter. Something has been lost. Something remains. And something continues, almost of its own accord.
