Across this season, we explore the genius of Felix Mendelssohn's symphonic music, and also dip into some of his most popular overtures as well as chamber works. This evening, we present music by the Mendelssohn siblings - Fanny and Felix. The prodigious sister of Felix was also a talented musician and composer, and yet was limited by prevailing attitudes of the time toward women. And her output of over 500 pieces of music has been rarely performed or published, which is the case for the string quartet in this concert.

Nonetheless, the Quartet showcases her superb instrumental writing, and tonight's guest director Malin Broman has arranged this work to a version for string orchestra. As well as being a leader in the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Broman is an award-winning violinist in demand as a soloist, artistic director and chamber musicians.

This evening marks her debut with the NCO.
