The evening’s main work is performed by six wonderful musicians from the orchestra. Fresh from a recent tour to Italy and South Korea, the ensemble brings home a finely honed sextet program – full of energy, precision, and playful charm – with Brahms at the heart of the evening.
Written in 1860, when the 27-year-old Brahms was still carving out his place among the greats, this string sextet blends classical form with romantic depth. With two violas and two cellos, the music takes on a rich, glowing warmth – from its sun-drenched opening, through a moving set of variations and a spirited scherzo, to a final rondo brimming with elegance and wit.
The sextet also shares highlights from their tour repertoire that frame Brahms’ beautiful sextet.
